The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra (BSO), under the baton of David Hernando Rico, brings to life the ambitious new project by Spanish composer Pedro Vilarroig: "The Odyssey".

Released by the Cezanne label, this album brings together two grand symphonic poems inspired by classical epic poetry and the eternal struggle between good and evil. The pieces, recorded by our orchestra between 2016 and 2018, are presented now in a spectacular new 2026 remastering by Javier Monteverde.

A sonic journey in two major works:

  • "La Odisea" (The Odyssey): A musical journey through Ulysses' voyage (from the departure of Troy to his return to Ithaca), recreating mythical passages such as the encounter with Polyphemus, the Sirens' song, and the protection of the goddess Athena.

  • "Héroes y Villanos" (Heroes and Villains): An intense symphonic battle between good and evil that evolves from dark atmospheres to an epic finale where the choir takes center stage.

Symphonic music with a cinematic soul: With a neotonal aesthetic that pays tribute to 19th-century Romanticism and the greatest soundtracks in film history, Vilarroig offers a visual, emotional, and orchestrally rich experience.

The release also coincides with a renewed global interest in Homer's myth due to the upcoming film adaptation of The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan, proving the timeless relevance of these universal tales.
