BSO Records the Score for the Acclaimed Film The Violinist (2026), Awarded the SACEM Prize for Best Original Music

At the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, we are immensely proud to have dedicated our performance, passion, and sound to The Violinist (2026). Directed by Ervin Han and Raúl García, this acclaimed animated feature film made history in the world of animation by winning the prestigious Cristal for a Feature Film at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Our orchestra was entrusted with recording the symphonic score for this outstanding international co-production (Singapore, Spain, and Italy), whose soundtrack has been honored with the prestigious SACEM Award for Best Original Music.
A Musical Bridge Between East and West
Co-written by Golden Horse Award-winning Singaporean composer Ricky Ho and Spanish composer Isabel Latorre, the soundtrack serves as the true narrative and emotional engine of the film. The story follows Kai and Fei, two young violinists whose lives are shattered by World War II in 1941 Singapore, and whose subsequent quest and love story unfold across eight decades.
To reflect this deeply human and temporal journey, the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra recorded a richly nuanced score that beautifully evolves:
From the brightness and hope of youth in the 1930s.
Through the tension and drama of wartime occupation.
To the deep melancholy and nostalgia of reunion and maturity in post-war Southeast Asia.
The Dialogue Between Orchestra and Solo Violin
Our orchestral performance provided the perfect canvas and support for the expressive violin solos recorded by Singaporean virtuoso Joy Yong. The resulting fusion between our string and woodwind sections and the soloist creates an organic, delicate sonic journey, bringing immense dramatic power to the film's development.
It has been a true honor for us to collaborate with creators of the caliber of Ricky Ho and Isabel Latorre, contributing to a soundtrack for The Violinist that will be remembered not merely as an accompaniment, but as a vital character that breathes and moves audiences alongside the story.
