The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra picks up on the tradition of the orchestra by the same name which existed in Bratislava between the first and second World Wars. In the 1990's the Orchestra collaborated on a great number of recordings. Highlights from this period include the recordings prepared for the tenor Alfredo Kraus and the soprano Renata Scotto in Badajoz (Spain), as well as concerts directed by Erich Binder (Concertino from Vienna's philharmonic orchestra) throughout Europe. Throughout its history the Orchestra has participated in a number of important festivals such as the Mozart from Schönnbrunn Festival where it performed the operas "Cosi fan Tutte", "Die Zauberflote" and "Die Entfühurung aus dem Serail". In Japan, it toured performing the operas of "Don Giovanni" and "Le nozze di Figaro". The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra has also performed regularly in Vienna interpreting oratorios, masses, as well as concerts with instrumental soloists of international renown. In the year 2000 BSO underwent internal restructuring and the Spaniard David Hernando was named its music director and conductor. This change brought renewed energy and ideas which have resulted in a multitude of recordings for world-renown recording houses such as Warner Music, Sony Music, Azteca Music, Universal Music among others, as well as important cinema producers such as Columbia Pictures, Filmmax, Future Films. On april 2009 made the world premiere of the composition Tanausú of the Spanish composer Paco Viciana. In July 2011 Bratislava Symphony Orchestra participate in two concerts in the International Music Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canarias. |
